What was intended to be a travel blog quickly warped into a place where I could muse about clothing I find pretty - plus I was being fairly stationary in Palo Alto, inactive in providing any travel material to document. But now, as the fall chill settles in, I find myself in a place where exotic experiences are not just possible, but demanded, simply by the proximity of dozens of cultures, all a short (and cheap!) flight away. So this year, I very intentionally plan on placing globetrotting at the top of my list. I'll kick off this more adventurous chapter of my life with some words on DC, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in the world.
I’m not sure if I have the time or the talent to describe all the dolled up shop fronts and picturesque cafes that freckle the city. All I can suggest is everything: try and soak it all in and pop in every museum and let yourself be swept up by the magnificence of it all. I will say I had a strangely patriotic moment when I saw the Declaration of Independence, and got a tiny buzz off of free mimosas from Anthropologie. I happened across the original Monet painting of a print that has been hanging over my bed for the past three years, and attended the same concert as the Ambassador to Egypt (I'm perhaps one of few that thinks this is really cool). Maybe it’s the generous, fascinating people I know there, or the fact that I’ve been binge watching The West Wing recently, but DC is the place to be.
